XHTML, CSS, WordPress, PHP, jQuery

front end:

The client provided the images, XHTML, and JS. I added in the slideshow JS using jQuery Cycle, as well as a few other custom layouts.

back end:

The backend makes the site. Most views have hand picked articles which the site admins manage from a slick backend admin panel which allows them to drag and drop content into place. The theme templates are highly customized to handle the custom content place. Everything on this site is dynamic and easily customizable.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

I have done a lot of admin panels – but this is by far the coolest thing I have done to date with them.

back end:

For ease of use, the forum and site login is single sign-on. There are a few custom admin panels for ad management as well as to specify what goes into the featured slideshows. There are also a number of custom functions that make all the moving parts dynamic so the client can easily feature, change, move around the content in all views.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

After this site was completed – I duplicated it to another domain (Portuguese): http://passear.com which was the first time I used the Portuguese build of WordPress. WordPress is still easy to use – even it not in your native language!

front end:

The client wanted something minimal, and clean to present all their content. They wanted a number of javascript functionality: drop down menus, slideshows, accordions, etc. I used jQuery to handle all the tasks.

back end:

There are a number of custom admin panels as well as custom templates in place for this site in order for everything on the site to be editable and dynamic. There are custom admin panels for the slideshow, sidebar, and home page content and then custom page templates which dynamically create the accordion pages wherever you see them. The client does not need to put in any special code or divs.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

Having content and then designing for that content makes more sense than designing something with content that does not exist. I am now a firm believer that content comes first.

There is a lot going on in the site and I had to make it as easy as possible to control the content for the client as possible. I use Jappler Menus with the WordPress function to create the dynamic menus, jQuery Cycle with a custom admin panel for the home page slide show, jQuery UI Accordion for the accordion on the home page along with custom editable pages in WordPress to manage the content, and more. Basically – everything you see is easily editable by someone that does not know any HTML, PHP, or CSS.
