We worked with the client to understand the design needs, created a design, then turned that into a WordPress theme (XHTML, CSS, JS, PHP).

back end:

There are a number of custom admin panels, custom fields, custom shortcodes, etc to make this as easy to use as possible. All of the sidebar elements pull in content dynamically, and there is a lot of really cool functionality built into the UI as well as the backend to make this extremely easy to manage.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

There are some really great jQuery pieces that can be seen as the site develops in the next month or so after launch (early 2010)

front end:

The client wanted a flexible theme so they could easily change link colors, the header, the font, the menu items, etc. I showed them my Lucidity theme and they loved the options so we started with that.

back end:

Even though the Lucidity theme comes with a number of options to make it easy to use – I added in more functionality and a few custom templates so they could control their gigs section, the menu items, and a few other custom options they were looking for.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

It was great working with a band I had admired since the mid nineties!

The client provided the PSD mockups to work with and using some simple javascript along with Jappler Menus – the site was pieced together.

back end:

The site has a public and a private area which I used WordPress for both. There are also a few custom widgets to help make placing content as easy as possible.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

A lot of people do not realize how easy it is to password protect certain sections on WordPress – but it really is rather simple to set up!

The client provided the PSD mockups for the site and I provided them with a finished CSS/XHTML/PHP WordPress theme.

back end:

There is a lot going on in the site and I had to make it as easy as possible to control the content for the client as possible. I use Jappler Menus with the WordPress function to create the dynamic menus, jQuery Cycle with a custom admin panel for the home page slide show, jQuery UI Accordion for the accordion on the home page along with custom editable pages in WordPress to manage the content, and more. Basically – everything you see is easily editable by someone that does not know any HTML, PHP, or CSS.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

I love working with jQuery. It is easy to use, manipulate, and works great for adding some slick functionality.

The client worked with a designer to create the mockups as well as the XHTML, CSS, and Javascript for the views and I put everything together to create a WordPress theme.

back end:

The goal with this site like most every site I work on was to keep it as simple as possible for the client to manage content. There is a lot of template logic that pulls in custom post fields, custom admin panel fields, and other such techniques so they can easily and dynamically have all their content flow into the layout without touching any of the template files.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

Overall – it was great to use a number of custom interfaces to capture information used throughout the site.

This was one of the most complicated sites I have worked on to date. There are numerous custom admin features that allows the client to easily change, update and manipulate content. A number of custom fields also gives the client the ability to mark and then display custom content types. There are a number of custom functions on every page view that pulls in content dynamically and displays it depending on the page view.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

Overall – this was an awesome project to work on and I look forward to working with TIME Inc. on more projects in the future.

Pypeline (WordPress CMS & bbPress Forum)

The client wanted an easy to manage site with a forum – completely designed from the ground up. We provided them with a completely custom design for an integrated WordPress/bbPress site.

back end:

The main goal with this site was to make a single sign-on web site for the client and their users. We tied in bbPress, added some jQuery functionality (scroller, etc) – and used everything we could to make sure it was easily managed.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

I love working with bbPress and WordPress together and enjoy the simplicity of this site.

The client wanted to create a web site using Lucidity Catalog for their business because of Lucidity Catalog’s highly customizable options. I created a very clean design to match the logo.

back end:

The client was able to utilize Lucidity Catalog’s backend so that they would not have to make modifications to the theme files.

It is nice to see others enjoying our themes.

The client provided me with an existing theme and a number of customizations. The home page logic is completely custom with a jQuery carousel that highlights specific information.

back end:

The main goal with this site was to make it as easy for the client to add and manage content as possible. The scroller has a custom admin where the client can easily add in new posts without having to touch any of the template code. The sidebar and footer content are completely controlled by widgets also making it easy to change content quickly and easily.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

I have been getting a number of requests to use existing themes and build upon them – and this is a good example of that.

The client wanted to add a WordPress blog to their existing site without the users knowing they were going from static pages to the WordPress site. I took their existing CSS and XHTML and created a simple theme so the change would be transparent to the user.

back end:

The only backend functionality for this was creating a javascript widget for the static pages that contained the latest blog posts Instead of putting in parser code on every page – I made a javascript widget so they could simply copy and paste one line of JS on each/any of their pages and output the recent blog posts.

lessons learned/random thoughts:

So many people look for a way to add WordPress to their existing sites without having different styles or a different look and feel and this a perfect example of how easy it can be implemented.
