After looking for a media player for WordPress sites and blogs, I have finally come to the conclusion that Cool Player is a great plugin to take a look at. A number of my clients need the ability to play a number of media files, and with an impressive list of supported media types, I recommend looking at Cool Player:

This version supports those types of files: rm, rmvb, ra, rv, ram, smil, smi, rtsp, rpm, asf, wm, wma, wmv, wax, wvx, ogg, ape, avi, mid, midi, wav, mms, m3u, asx, mov, qt, mqv, m4v, m4a, m4b, mpeg, mpg, m1s, m1v, m1a, m75, m15, mp2, mpm, mpv, mpa, flc, fli, cel, aiff, aif, aifc, cdda, bwf, rts, 3gp, 3gpp, 3g2, 3gp2, au, snd, ulw, smf, kar, qcp, sdv, gsm, amr, caf, amc, mp4, sdp, pdf, fdf, xfdf, xdp, xfd, gif, jpg, jpeg, bmp, png, xpm, dir, dxr, dcr, cst, cct, cxt, w3d, fgd, swa, swf, spl, mp3, flv, rtmp, rbs, xml, rss, xspf, atom.

  • XHTML/CSS programming
  • CMS (WordPress) configuration
  • WordPress theme
  • WordPress Widgets
  • Third Party Plugin integration
  • aMember integration
  • Custom PHP programming

technologies used:

XHTML, CSS, WordPress, PHP, aMember

user interface:

This web site design was created by a graphic designer that had also started the XHTML/CSS. I picked up where the designer left off and implemented the design as a WordPress theme.

lessons learned:

It is sometimes easier starting from scratch when working with other peoples’ code. A lot of time was spent fixing existing CSS issues and trying to figure out what the person did before me. In the end, everything worked out and is working.

random thoughts:

This site is almost completely dynamic. This site was created with the hopes that the admin could control everything completely through the WordPress admin. The menus, content, sidebars are all maintained via the admin.

Scott Berkun

SDAC Inc provided:

technologies used:

XHTML, CSS, WordPress, PHP, SMARTY, phpBB, Apache mod_rewrite

user interface:

This web site was designed by Scott Berkun (web site owner) and I took his Photoshop mockups and turned them into CSS and XHTML. A few months later, I worked with Scott to move his entire web site into WordPress by setting up a CMS for him.

lessons learned:

I learned quite a bit about mod_rewrite and search engine optimization. Scott is a well known author and speaker and I had to make sure his old URL structure would be redirected to the new structure when using WordPress.

random thoughts:

While moving all of his static content into WordPress, I learned quite a bit about project management. Check out his essays!
