front end:
The client provided me with a Photoshop PSD of how the site should look and I took it from there, created all the templates, added in a jQuery Cycle piece on the home page, jappler Menus for the drop downs, and brought everything together.
back end:
The main goal with this site was to make it as easy for the client to add and manage content as possible. All the content areas, menus, etc are all managed within WordPress and makes for a great, clean, backend.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
I provide ongoing development for this client and it was great to get their content into WordPress.

front end:
The client wanted to migrate an existing static site to WordPress for content management. I took the existing code from the site and put it into the appropriate templates.
back end:
There is some interesting functionality with this site. The client wanted to have intro pages and then full content pages, so I built a custom plugin to handle this and then to only show the summary pages in the RSS feed.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
It is great to get clients from a static site to something dynamic and easy to manage. One less static site out there…

front end:
The client provided a simple Photoshop PSD mockup and I turned that into the WordPress theme seen on the site. The client’s needs very basic so everything is very simple and straightforward.
back end:
The client wanted to easily manage all the content without touching any code – so I made sure everything was managed by them. Overall, there was nothing complicated with this site – just a very straightforward clean theme with minimal custom functionality.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
I turned this around in less than a day so it was nice to see something from start to finish within a day.

The client was interested in using Lucidity Catalog for their site with modifications to the look of the theme to match their new album so I worked together with them to brand Lucidity Catalog.
back end:
This site was built starting with the Lucidity framework which gave the client easy access to a number of Lucidity’s standard functions which they loved which made it really easy for them to manage just about everything about the site which was exactly what they were looking for.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
It was an honor to have them use our Lucidity Catalog theme for the site and I hope to catch them in concert when they come to the US.

Since this was a startup web site started by me and another colleague – I had complete control over everything with this project. I started by creating the logo and header and then the rest of the site design fell into place. For the front end – I wanted something bold, bright, and stylish. I needed something that had definite ad spots, a focus on the main rating system, and something that would be quick and easy for anyone to enjoy.
back end:
I used a custom PHP framework which allowed us to have a templating system, clean URLs, the ability to easily store and retrieve data without the hassle of managing hundreds of columns, as well as a lot of jQuery functionality to reduce page refreshes and to increase functionality. Our focus was on simplicity and reusability. There are four main components of this project: user management, photo upload/display, rating, and administration. Each component is completely customizable and uses jQuery whenever possible to make the user experience as easy and straightforward as possible.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
Having to build something like this from scratch – logo, layout, CSS/HTML, PHP/MySQL functionality was both fun and exciting and I look forward to adding more functionality to this site in the near future. Stay tuned!

I had created a Drupal theme for this client previously and used that as a starting place for this project. The client needed several views (application, admin, reporting, data entry, print, etc) and we built a template system to make this as easy as possible. (This is quite a large and complicated application and ended up having well over 100 views). For the most part – since this application is geared more towards older viewers – we tried to keep everything as clean as possible.
back end:
After debating on what to use for this rather large application (hundreds of data entry fields) – we decided on using a custom PHP framework which allowed us to have a templating system, clean URLs, the ability to easily store and retrieve data without the hassle of managing hundreds of columns, as well as a lot of jQuery functionality to reduce page refreshes and to increase functionality. Our focus was on simplicity and reusability. There are four main components of this project: data collection form, user management, product inventory, and reporting. Each component by itself is fully functional and allows the users and administrators easy access and manipulate the data needed.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
With hundreds of data entry fields and over one hundred views, this application had to be well thought out before the first line of code was ever written. Several phone calls, documentation from the client, test plans, and proposed solutions were discussed well before anything took shape. Great planning ahead of time made something this large possible.

I was given an existing theme to work with to make minor changes to (colors, background color, navigation button changes). The site owner took care of the rest.
back end:
I created a number of custom functions to handle content areas, featured stories carousel, permalink changes, custom excerpts, and custom author functionality. All in all – I made a number of customizations so that the site owner could control and manipulate his content exactly how he wanted.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
I usually do a lot of front end changes/designs for WordPress sites but it was nice to also work almost soley on the functionality of a site as well. This site (as of March 2009) is just in it’s early days and I expect to see great things from it in the next coming months.

- WordPress theme
- Custom PHP programming
technologies used:
XHTML, CSS, Moveable Type, WordPress, WordPress.com (Hosting), PHP
front end:
I used the existing TIME Inc. Moveable Type templates for the sites above and from those I created WordPress templates that would display everything so that the readers would not know there was any difference on the backend.
back end:
The templates are used across multiple TIME Inc. blogs and have custom functionality that allows them to be flexible enough for customizations across the sites.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
Creating a theme that would be used on several sites took some creative thinking and careful execution. This was an interesting and fun migration. (WordPress VIP hosting migrated the data).

front end:
The client came to me after purchasing a news theme (Remix) and wanted some customizations (colors, layout) and added logic.
back end:
I added in a lot of custom logic to dynamically control the header image which changes on per category, and also custom logic to the sidebar so the client can easily add related links and have them show up dynamically per category. I added some custom plugins to take care of these issues as well as the images on the homepage. All the customizations make it easier for the client to control the output of content while using WordPress’s admin.
lessons learned/random thoughts:
It is wonderful to be able to travel as much as this client did – I look forward to seeing their upcoming trips documented!
