NIU Today covers all the latest Northern Illinois news and events around campus.
Front End Description
We were asked to add in some additional functionality to an already in place WordPress site. We used existing styles to style our new functionality.
Back End Description
We created a current weather function, admin controlled header, NIU event calendar listing, and some admin controlled content areas. The weather function uses the Yahoo Weather API, the calendar listing hooks into their existing calendar system, and we created a number of content areas on the site where they could easily add/change content (all header content, as well as the middle column on the home page).
Lessons Learned/Random Thoughts
We ran into some XML encoding issues between web hosts so solving that involved learning more about specific server set ups/options.
